The Daisy Movement
Under the patronage of Mary,”Mother of the Church”

The Daisy Movement was started in August 1981 with the purpose of supporting priests in their ministry and their spiritual life. It was in answer to the invitation of Jesus: ‘’the harvest is large, but there are few workers to gather it in. Pray to the owner of the harvest that he will send out workers to gather in his harvest’’. (Matt 9, 37) and of Paul who urges the faithful to pray for him . ‘’Pray also for me… so that I may speak boldly the truth of the Gospel.’’ (Eph 6, 19).

The aims of The Daisy Movement:
• prayer for a priest chosen by the group,
• care for the unity of the priests with the bishop, and with one another,
• the cooperation between the clergy and the laity,
• supporting the vocation to the priesthood and the religious life

The symbolism

The Daisy was chosen as a symbol for this movement because this little flower means gift of self, simplicity and unity. It has 7 petals which, for this project, represent the days of the week. The 7 people adopting a particular priest each choose a day of the week which they offer for their priest and pray for him in the most convenient way for them.
